Securing Microsoft Windows

Patching Windows can be done in different ways:

  1. Manual patching
  2. Microsoft Windows Update website
  3. Automatic updates (update client included in Windows 2000 SP3 and Windows XP SP1)
  4. Use third party tools like BigFix

If you want to patch it manually because you think automatic updates are a security risk or because you don't want your Product Identification sent out over the Internet. You can have a look at this document: How to disable Windows Update completely.
